Fighting crime in a future time! The 1988 animated series where Empire City’s finest take on Big Boss and his gang of crooks in the year 2020. Each C.O.P.S. officer had a gimmick: Bulletproof the leader, Highway the driver, Barricade the strongman, Bowser the K9 handler with his dog Blitz, and the unforgettable, ahem, Sundown, Mace, and company.
Ninety percent toy commercial, sure, but a genuinely fun one with better action writing than most Saturday morning fare, and the crime of the week format held up better than it had any right to. It even ended each episode with an actual safety tip for kids.
Our take: 7/10.
