The event series that paid off the franchise’s biggest dangling thread: Rick Grimes, taken away by helicopter in the flagship’s final season, and Michonne, who went looking for him. Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira return for a six-episode limited run that was originally planned as a movie, and it plays like one: the scale is bigger, the stakes are personal, and the story finally closes the book on the Rick era.

Gurira is the standout: Michonne’s decade of searching gets the weight it deserves, and the reunion the fandom waited years for lands without shortcuts. As a coda to twelve years of television, it is about as good as these things get.

Watch the flagship’s final two seasons first for context, then this. It is the ending the story deserved.

Our take: 8.5/10. A great television ending disguised as an event series.
