The first companion series, and the one that answered the question every fan asked: what did the fall of civilization actually look like? The early Los Angeles seasons have a slower, sadder register than the flagship, watching a blended family come apart as the world does, and Kim Dickens’ Madison Clark anchored the show’s best era.
The midseason reinventions divide fans: the ranch saga, the stadium jump, and the big crossover seasons with Morgan brought it closer to flagship energy. The final seasons (with a returning Madison and a last breakout villain in PADRE) closed the run with more grace than most spinoffs get, running eight seasons and 113 episodes in total.
Best read as its own show: slow-burn family tragedy wearing a zombie show’s clothes.
Our take: 7.5/10. The most underrated entry in the franchise.
