Our Review
The weirdest superhero show on television, and the most human. DC’s team of broken people, a race car driver trapped in a robot body, a woman whose mind hosts 64 distinct personalities each with a power, a pilot whose body decomposes while his mind stays intact, a brain in a bucket, are led by the Chief (Timothy Dalton), the patriarch who saved them and the villain who made them, and the show never resolves that tension because neither can the team.
Based on Grant Morrison’s surreal run, the show commits to absurdity as therapy: a sentient street named Danny, a fourth wall-breaking villain (Alan Tudyk’s Mr. Nobody, a relish soaked masterpiece), a donkey that’s a portal to despair. Seasons 1-2 are the peak; the finale gives the whole cast closure with real grace. It’s the anti-DC show: no universe building, just wound dressing with superpowers.
Verdict: Watch it. The superhero show that understands the power was never the point.
