Steven Spielberg’s alien invasion show, and the rare one that starts AFTER the invasion. Earth already lost. The Espheni took the cities, the adults are dead or collaring survivors with harnesses, and what’s left of humanity fights from the margins. Noah Wyle plays a history teacher turned resistance leader, raising three boys in a war where kids get taken and come back wrong.

The best thing Falling Skies does is stay small. The 2nd Massachusetts is a refugee column as much as an army, and the show keeps its budget smart: skirmishes, not battles, and the family drama carries the weight. Moon Bloodgood’s pediatrician and Will Patton’s grizzled sergeant anchor the ensemble. The alien mythology gets weirder every season and the Volm storyline splits fans, but the show never loses its grip on what it is about: parents trying to keep kids human in an inhuman war.

Five seasons, fifty two episodes, and it ENDS properly, which for sci-fi on basic cable is a small miracle. A solid binge with a real finish.
