Our Review
There are three lines of dialogue every millennial can perform on command: the theme song’s hook, Kelly’s admission that mutants deserve protection, and Morph’s I am an idiot. X-Men: The Animated Series was the show that made mutants a household concept a full eight years before Bryan Signer’s X-Men opened in 2000, and it ran the Brotherhood as a genuine political movement rather than a costume club.
The early episodes still hit. Days of Future Past, a full five episode adaptation, and Apocalypse and the Black Phoenix arcs took the Claremont era material seriously. Norm Spencer’s Cyclops, the original Cal Dodd Wolverine, Lenore Zann’s unbothered Storm, George Buza’s Beast doing everyone’s comedy. It holds 8.4 on IMDb from decades of accumulated fandom and a respectable 83% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The X-Men ’97 sequel on Disney+ revived the whole stack, and it deserves the revisit on its own merits. All 76 episodes on Disney+ and Hulu.
