The setup is a fish out of water sitcom; the show it becomes is one of the warmest character stories on television, where the joke is never the town but the family’s slow, real growth.
Catherine O’Hara’s Moira Rose is a hall of fame performance (her vocabulary alone is worth the watch), Dan and Eugene Levy build a father son core with actual stakes, and the pan season Emmy sweep was earned. The first season is the weakest; it finds itself in season 2 and never looks back.
Ew, David. Watch it.
