The best drama on TV about work — and the anxiety epidemic wearing a chef’s coat. Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), a fine-dining prodigy, comes home to Chicago to run his dead brother’s sandwich shop, and the show turns a kitchen into a pressure vessel: every ticket a test, every family meal a minefield, every grief a knife nobody’s put down. The Fishes Christmas episode — a two-hour panic attack with the Berzatto family — is the most stressful television ever made, in the best way.
The ensemble is flawless: Ayo Edebiri’s Sydney (the co-chef and the show’s heart), Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Richie (whose season-2 transformation episode Forks is the best hour of the series), Marcus’s pastry arc, the whole kitchen. Seasons 3-4’s critiques divided fans, but the craft never wavers: shot like cinema, edited like jazz, acted at a level that fills award shelves. The rare show that makes stress art.
Verdict: Watch it. Yes, chef.
