The quiet masterpiece of adult animation. Where its loud cousins went for shock, King of the Hill built a sitcom about a Texas propane salesman and his family that plays like a live action show that happens to be drawn. Hank Hill is one of the great sitcom leads ever written: a decent, stubborn man whose old fashioned code both limits and anchors everyone around him.
The comedy is character first. Bobby’s gentle weirdness, Peggy’s confident ignorance, Dale’s conspiracy paranoia that misses the conspiracy in his own house: the show finds infinite material in small, specific people being themselves. It is also sneakily moving in a way none of its peers attempt.
Revival incoming with the original voice cast, so now is the perfect time to catch up. Comfort watching with actual depth.
Our take: 8.5/10. The most human show in adult animation.
