Our Review

The Ewan McGregor nostalgia vehicle that delivers exactly one thing — watching Obi-Wan be Obi-Wan again — and surrounds it with the most disposable plot the Star Wars machine has produced. Set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, the show finds Kenobi in exile on Tatooine, spiritually broken, watching over young Luke from a distance until Princess Leia’s kidnapping drags him back into the galaxy.

The Kenobi/Vader rematch is the reason this exists, and the lightsaber scenes — especially the final duel where Obi-Wan apologizes to the man Vader became — have real emotional weight. McGregor has never been better in the role; the scene where he learns the truth about Anakin is devastating. But the inquisitor plot is thin, Leia’s chase feels like a video game escort mission, and Reva’s arc asks a lot of goodwill the writing hasn’t banked. The ending confirms what we suspected: this was a movie stretched to six episodes.

Verdict: Watch it for McGregor and the rematch; keep expectations in a galaxy far, far away.
