The black sheep of the family, and the only Dragon Ball series with no Toriyama manga behind it: GT is entirely anime original, which is why fans argue about whether any of it counts.

The honest take: the first stretch is a slog. Goku gets turned back into a kid and the crew flies around space on a dragon hunt, and it takes a while to find itself. Then the Baby arc arrives and GT suddenly becomes a real show with real stakes, the Super 17 interlude is short, and the Shadow Dragons finale lands with more heart than anyone expected. The final episode is a genuinely lovely sendoff for the whole cast.

Watch it after Z with tempered expectations and there is a good time in here. Skip the slow start if you must: begin around episode 17 and you lose almost nothing.

Our take: 6/10. Uneven, but the back half is better than its reputation.
