Our Review

The official continuation, picking up after Buu with Goku and Vegeta training under gods. Super starts rough: the animation in the first arc wobbles and the retellings of the Battle of Gods and Resurrection F movies are the weakest stretch (honestly, just watch the movies instead).

Then it finds its footing hard. The Future Trunks arc is one of the best things the franchise has ever done, dark without being miserable, with a villain fans still argue about. And the Tournament of Power is the single greatest battle royale in anime: 80 fighters, one arena, every universe’s best, and it builds to a moment that made the entire internet lose its mind.

Super understands what made Z work and modernizes it: less dead air, tighter fights, actual character growth for Vegeta. It ended its run in 2018 with the story wide open, and the manga continues past it.

Our take: 8/10. A worthy continuation with the best tournament arc in the franchise since the original.
