Apple took a gamble on a medical dramedy about a hospital intern who might be a mob hitman, and the bet is stacked with names worth watching. Will Poulter stars as Dr. Peter Brown, an intern at Boston’s worst hospital working a shift from hell when a patient recognizes him from a past he would rather keep buried. Eight hours to dodge the government, the mob, and some genuinely quack surgeons, per Josh Bazell’s 2009 novel. Sam Catlin, who cut his teeth on Breaking Bad and built Sugar for Apple, showruns, which is exactly the right sensibility for material that plays a near fatal chase as office comedy.

Apple Studios and New Regency co produce, with Arnon Milchan executive producing, and the December 2025 series order moved fast: casting has been steady since, with J.K. Simmons the most recent name attached. Poulter arrives off The Bear season four and a Black Mirror return, riding the best stretch of his career, and Catlin under his overall Apple deal gets the kind of latitude most showrunners only dream about.

The Early Word: no premiere date yet, and no footage, so judgment waits. What is here already is a strong novel, a lead with real comic menace, and a showrunner who knows how to make danger funny without making it cute. Keep it on the radar. Full review after the premiere.
