Filmation’s victory lap: He-Man’s twin sister turned out to be the other half of the Power Princess, and the Great Rebellion took on Hordak’s Horde across 93 episodes of syndicated adventure. If that premise sounds absurd, so was the He-Man show, and She-Ra actually plays it straighter and darker than its brother ever did.
Adora lives undercover in the Horde as Captain Adora, Catra is her best friend and enemy in the same sentence, and the show’s politics of an occupied planet are more explicit than anything in Eternia. The 1985 movie premiere is the strongest single hour, the later multi episode arcs where Shadow Beasts mutate and the Rebellion loses ground hold up surprisingly well.
Rotate through Netflix and Prime listings; the original complete series box is the way to go. It is the appetizer to the 2018 She-Ra remake, and honestly the remake’s fans should know the original exists. 6 out of 10, elevated by Catra.
