Our Review
The first animated Marvel franchise on television, made by the same Grantray-Lawrence pipeline that gave us Spider-Man, twenty episodes of the Four brawling through recycled Dracula animation while a choral jingle yells Gee at the end of every act.
The stories are abridged Kirby, Galactus compressed to a monster of the week, Doom stripped of his nuance, and the cels from the 1966 Dracula cartoon visible underneath the cape work. It is historically vital and barely watchable back to back, a museum exhibit that sometimes smiles at you.
Some episodes surface inside Marvel vault compilations and DVD box sets. Grade it as an artifact, 6 out of 10, and let the 1994 series be the one you actually rewatch.
