Our Review
The MCU’s best TV series, and the one that gave the franchise its most complete ending. The 2012 Loki variant escapes with the Tesseract in Endgame, and gets arrested by the TVA (Time Variance Authority), an infinite bureaucracy outside time that prunes timelines to protect the Sacred Timeline. What starts as a time crime caper becomes the MCU’s most metaphysical story: free will versus determinism, personified by a bureaucrat and a trickster.
Tom Hiddleston gives his best performance as a Loki stripped of his armor and forced to confront who he is without his tricks, and Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie (a Loki variant who grew up hiding in apocalypses) is his perfect foil. Owen Wilson’s jet ski-loving Mobius and Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Renslayer give the TVA its human face; Jonathan Majors’ He Who Remains detonates the multiverse. Season 2 pays the temporal physics bill (the Temporal Loom, the time slipping is dazzling) and ends with Loki sacrificing godhood to hold the timelines together, the single most moving ending the MCU has produced.
Verdict: Watch it. The MCU’s crown jewel.
