Our Review
DC’s dirt and-anger Teen Titans, a show that took the Robin who quit Batman and made him meaner than Bruce ever was. Brenton Thwaites’s Dick Grayson, ex-Robin turned Detroit cop, is the anchor: a man who left the mantle because he enjoyed the violence too much, forced back in when Rachel Roth, a girl with a demon inside her, needs protecting. The team assembles slowly. Starfire (Anna Diop, luminous and dangerous), Beast Boy, and Hawk & Dove (the show’s best addition: a pair of has been heroes whose marriage is the real superpower), and the mythology builds over four seasons to a Trigon apocalypse, a Blackfire betrayal, a Red Hood arc, and a finale that goes full Crisis.
The show’s violence quotient (a Robin beating muggers while screaming profanity at Batman’s memory) was the marketing hook; its actual identity is trauma made flesh, every character is a survivor, and the show takes their damage seriously. The character work (especially the Dick and Kory chemistry) is better than it needed to be. The live action peak of DC’s streaming era.
Verdict: Watch it. The Teen Titans grown up, literally, and violently.
