The Book of Boba Fett

Our Review

The most confused show in the Star Wars canon: Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) survives the sarlacc, takes Jabba’s throne, and declares himself Tatooine’s new daimyo — a crime-lord premise the show keeps abandoning. Then, mid-season, it becomes The Mandalorian 2.5 for three full episodes: Din Djarin back in the spotlight, Grogu’s training, the darksaber — Boba disappears from his own show, and the finale’s big battle can’t recover the center of gravity.

What works: the Tusken flashbacks (Boba’s adoption by a Tusken tribe is genuinely moving, and the sand-people culture-building is the best Star Wars worldbuilding in years), Morrison’s weary gravitas, Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec Shand. What doesn’t: the identity crisis, and a crime lord who wants to rule by respect — a fascinating character study that makes for a boring gang war.

Verdict: Watch the Tusken episodes and the Mando episodes; this is the “watch this not that” of the Mando-verse.
