Our Review
Dave Filoni’s live action continuation of Rebels: Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) hunts Grand Admiral Thrawn’s return while Sabine Wren trains, badly, impatiently, under her, and a new galaxy opens the saga’s map. The show is Rebels season 5 by other means: the World Between Worlds, Ezra Bridger’s return, and Baylan Skoll, the late Ray Stevenson as a fallen Jedi searching for something older than the Sith, the most compelling new character the Disney era has produced.
The duel choreography (Ahsoka vs. Skoll in the forest; the World Between Worlds episodes with Hayden Christensen’s Anakin as Ahsoka’s final test) is the best live action saber work in years, and the atmosphere is Filoni’s mythic register, slow, sincere, heavy with legacy. It’s a fan facing show whose pacing will test viewers who haven’t seen Rebels; for those who have, it’s the reunion the finale promised.
Verdict: Watch it. Rebels first if you can, and it hits twice as hard.
