The fix, and better than a fix: Singer returns, the two casts actually merge, and the Sentinels become a time travel problem rather than a robot of the week. The future war opening is a full pitch of despair, the Days of Future Past comic compressed to its emotional core, Logan’s walking corpse through the killing fields earns the premise before the time jump even happens.
Then the 1973 act is a heist film, McAvoy’s broken Xavier, Fassbender’s Magneto in a British submarine pen, Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique as the swing vote of history, Quicksilver in the Pentagon kitchen, that single scene, and a Pentagon break that is the purest joy the Fox series ever produced. The 90% on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.9 on IMDb from 792K voters are the franchise’s honest high water.
On Disney+ and Hulu. The best Fox X-Men film and the argument for the multiverse idea done right. Eight and a half out of ten.
