The sequel a comedy has to earn, and it earned it: David Leitch restructures the formula into a Road Movie, the Juggernaut chase is the best action work in any of the Fox films, and Josh Brolin’s Cable plays the straight man with a real war behind him. The film understands that Deadpool works when it loves its characters in public, the whole team assembling sequence is a joke that turns sincere at the right instant.
Domino’s lucky streak, the truck chase, the final loop the time machine gets for one specific scene, that is the whole movie in miniature, a joke about the franchise that is secretly about a man saving his friends. The 7.7 on IMDb is a shade under the first and the 83% on Rotten Tomatoes is honest.
On Disney+ and Hulu. Eight out of ten: the sequel did the job, and the post credits scene is the real reason to stay.
