The forgotten Filoni-verse show: Kazuda Xiono, a hotshot New Republic pilot, goes undercover at the Colossus — a racing platform on the ocean world of Castilon — spying on First Order sympathizers for the Resistance. The show skews youngest of the Star Wars animation: bright CG, broad comedy, racer-culture cast, with the First Order threat simmering underneath.

Season 2 sharpens considerably (the Colossus on the run, the war arriving, Tam’s recruitment by the First Order giving the show its real dramatic spine — a friend radicalized), and the finale closes the story right up to The Force Awakens‘ eve. It’s slight by design — the mid-tier Filoni show — but the early First Order worldbuilding rewards the patient. For completionists and kids.

Verdict: Watch it with young kids or for lore. Otherwise, Rebels is the “watch this” choice.
