Our Review
The most watchable dumb-smart show on television. A team of geniuses with the emotional skills of toddlers solves Homeland Security crises with math, engineering, and sheer nerve, and the result is pure comfort food: flashy, loud, and far more fun than it has any right to be.
The honest part first: the science is TV science. Solutions arrive with three seconds on the clock and a whiteboard, and if you know anything about actual engineering you will laugh. But the show knows what it is. Elyes Gabel’s Walter and Katharine McPhee’s Paige carry a genuinely sweet slow burn romance, Happy and Sylvester and Toby form one of TV’s better found families, and Robert Patrick clearly enjoys every minute as the normal-person handler herding cats.
Fair warning before you commit: the show was canceled after four seasons and ends on a cliffhanger, with the team split and stories unresolved. Fans fought hard to save it and lost. If you can live with that, what is here is a breezy 93 episode binge that plays great in the background or with the whole family.
Our take: 7/10. Turn your brain off at the door and it is a great time.
