A CIA officer goes back undercover in London and everything gets complicated: the job, the woman he loved on a past mission, and the agency’s trust in him. Michael Fassbender does quiet paranoia better than anyone, and the show has the patience to let a stare do the work of a monologue.
It is slow in the way good spy fiction is slow, building dread out of office politics and tradecraft. Not for everyone. Perfect for Le Carre fans.
