Our Review

The street-level palate cleanser: Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox, a deaf amputee actress playing a deaf amputee character — casting that matters and delivers) goes home to her Choctaw family in Oklahoma after Hawkeye, hunted by Kingpin — the surrogate father whose love is the cage. The show becomes a family-and-heritage drama with the Marvel logo as garnish: the Choctaw Nation treated as a living character, with the tribe’s actual participation.

The TV-MA violence gives the action real weight (this is the debut of the Marvel Spotlight banner — no Avengers homework required), the Cox-D’Onofrio confrontations carry the history, and the finale — Maya’s choice, not a punch-off — resolves the story in a key the franchise rarely tries: quiet. Five episodes, complete arc, the smallest MCU show, and proud of it.

Verdict: Watch it. Proof the MCU can whisper and still be heard.
