Summary

Walt returns to teaching at the high school; when Skinny Pete gets taken advantage of and ripped off, Jesse steps in, but bites off more than he can chew; Skyler takes the opportunity to show her appreciation for Gretchen’s kindness in picking up the tab for Walt’s treatments.

Our Take

The first black-and-white cold open: a pink teddy bear, half its face burned off, floating in the Whites’ pool. In the present: Walt’s surgery approaches, Skyler edges closer to the truth about the second phone, and Walt — dosed on anesthesia — mumbles the wrong thing at the wrong moment. The season’s structure announces itself: fragments of a catastrophe we don’t understand yet, scattered across episodes like evidence.
