Our Take
The narcocorrido episode: a Mexican band sings Heisenberg’s legend — “the cartel’s got a name for the gringo with the crystal blue” — while Walt discovers his product has outgrown him. The cold open is the show’s first big stylistic break, a musical number about his own myth, and it’s gorgeous. In the present, Walt’s attempts to scale up hit the wall of the border: the product moves, but the politics above it will crush anyone who doesn’t understand them.
