Episode Summary & Review
Summary
With Rupert Thorne missing and his replacement, Eddie Nygma (The Riddler) now wreaking havoc on Gotham, brutal street violence and brazen robberies escalate and the GCPD is spread too thin to slow it down. To get intel on Thorne’s whereabouts and background on his new capo, Nygma, the Batman goes undercover in Blackgate prison in the guise of Matches Malone!
Our Take
A solid prison episode that leans on atmosphere more than plot, and it mostly works. The Blackgate scenes have a nice grimy tension, though the Riddler material on the outside feels like a subplot marking time. It’s an enjoyable hour with some good Batman-as-thug moments, even if you can see where it’s heading early. Worth a watch, just don’t expect surprises.
