The one that taught Fox the wrong lessons: a big budget origin film that stuffs Deadpool, Silverfox, Gambit, Blob, and a weapon team into 107 minutes and lets them all go up in smoke. The 6.5 on IMDb from 573K voters is generous, which says more about the movie than the number does: it is watchable, Liev Schreiber’s Sabretooth is the only villain with a pulse, and the opening thirty minutes, the Three Rivers facility, the brothers’ war, are genuinely the best Logan material of the era.
Everything after the island is a studio checklist, and the final act commits the cardinal sin of making Wolverine’s origin about someone else’s scheme. Fox heard the reviews anyway, the money was good, and the same instinct produced the next two confused entries.
