15% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the internet’s love affair with the failure turned it into the most meme’d superhero movie ever. The truth is worse than the memes: Morbius is a 2013 movie that opened in 2022, an origin story with sequel bait attached and no sequel behind it, Jared Leto doing voice modulator Batman in a lab coat.
Adria Arjona and Matt Smith play the movie they were promised is real. Sony’s attempt to build a cinematic universe out of spare parts, this, Venom, Madame Web, ran three movies in and quietly ended. The it’s morbin time campaign proved the audience would have watched anything with a sufficiently committed tagline.
3.5 out of 10, watched at least twice by most of the internet, which is more than it asks for.
