Before the MCU made team crossovers routine, NBC ran the prototype: Spider-Man sharing an apartment with roommates Iceman and Firestar, all three living over Aunt May’s place and taking cases from a hidden headquarters behind a fireplace bust. Firestar, Angelica Jones, was invented for this show and only joined the comics X-Men years later because of its popularity.
24 episodes across three seasons, Marvel Productions animation in the house Filmation style, Frank Welker as Iceman, and a dog named Ogle who could have been a Scooby-Doo export. The villains borrow librarily from Ditko and Romita, the Doom and Goblin and Red Skull episodes are charming at their worst and genuinely fun at their best, and the theme song has never lost a fight with anyone’s memory. 7.2 on IMDb.
It lives on Disney+. A Saturday morning time capsule that still plays for kids and lands entirely on nostalgia for the rest of us.
