Our Review
The weirdest casualty of the 2001 fall season: a genuinely great live action superhero comedy starring Patrick Warburton as the Tick, aired by Fox at eleven p.m. against a lineup that buried it in nine episodes, half of which never made to air in the states.
It is closer to Edlund’s original comic in spirit than the cartoon was, more deadpan, more adult, the straight man (a beautifully agitated David Burke as Captain Liberty, and a young Elizabeth Perkins as the villain) playing everything with a straight face while the Tick eats a stick of butter like a candy cane. The opening credits alone justify the hunt.
Short, lost, funny. The cult is correct about this one.
Our score: 7.5/10.
