The anti sitcom of the early 2000s: no laugh track, no hugging, no lessons, just a chaotic lower middle class family seen through the eyes of a genius kid trapped in it. Frankie Muniz’s fourth wall breaks, Bryan Cranston’s career making Hal, and Jane Kaczmarek’s Lois, one of the great sitcom mothers, terrifying and right at the same time.

The snow cone fight, the bowling episode, the traffic jam hour: it swung for the fences constantly and connected more than it missed. A sharp, warm show disguised as pure anarchy, and the theme song still slaps.

Our take: 8.5/10.
