The new one, 2024, Netflix. A CGI production set in the One Year War’s European front, following a Zeon squad of veterans and conscripts holding a base they cannot evacuate. It is grounded, grimy, and closer to a war film than any Gundam before it.
The CG took flak from fans expecting hand drawn mecha, and the show answers by caring about squad dynamics and survival more than spectacle. Six episodes, in and out.
Short enough to watch in an evening and a genuine attempt to tell a soldier level story in the Universal Century. Worth the six episodes.
