The Gundam that owned after school TV in 1995. Five teenage pilots are dropped from space colonies to wage war against the Earth Alliance, each with his own Gundam, his own damage, and no adult supervision worth the name. Heero Yuy, the coldest fifteen year old in anime, starts the show by threatening to kill the girl who finds him.
Wing plays like a political thriller with giant robots: shifting alliances, puppet politicians, and a body count the show takes seriously. The mecha designs by Kunio Okawara became the face of the franchise in the west, and Endless Waltz locked the legacy in.
Forty nine episodes of opera scale war. The animation shows its age, the logic wobbles on rewatch, and none of that matters. This is the gateway Gundam for a whole generation, and it still hits.
