Our Review

The 1994 live action series that took the Paul Verhoeven movie franchise to television, and did a lot more with it than anyone expected. Richard Eden wore the armor as Alex Murphy, still patrolling Old Detroit against OCP’s schemes, street crime, and every corporate villain the writers could dream up.

Where the movies went ultra violent satire, the series leaned into the character: Murphy’s ongoing fight to hold onto his humanity, his bond with partner Lisa Madigan, and the running chess match with the escaped criminal minds behind Delta City’s rot. It was shot in Toronto, had a proper synth theme, and the suit actually looked right for a TV budget.

Twenty two episodes, one season, cancelled before it could grow past its monster of the week growing pains. But for Saturday night action in the mid 90s, this delivered. Dead or alive, you’re coming with me.
