Where it all began: 1984, the Autobots and Decepticons bring their war to Earth disguised as cars, jets, and tape decks. The show is pure Saturday morning, cheap animation, glorious toy commercial energy, and a mythology building enthusiasm that accidentally created one of fiction’s longest running franchises. The Transformers: The Movie (1986, the film) remains the era’s masterpiece, the…., the…., the soundtrack, the…. Unicron, the…., the deaths that scarred a generation.

The series proper is nostalgic comfort: the…, uneven, charming, occasionally brilliant (the multi part…., the…., and historically essential. Start with the movie; graze the episodes.

Verdict: Watch it for the nostalgia and the movie. More than meets the eye, with the caveat that the eye was 1984.
