AMC’s take on Rice’s witch saga is gothic soap done with real atmosphere: New Orleans haze, family curses, and Alexandra Daddario leading as a surgeon who learns her bloodline has a very attached passenger. Jack Huston’s Lasher is suitably seductive and creepy.
It moves slowly and the mythology gets thick, but if you like your horror romantic rather than gory, this casts a proper spell.
