The Peripheral revolves around Flynne Fisher, a woman in a near-future America in which technology has started to subtly alter society. Flynne discovers a hidden connection to a very different reality — and the dark future of her own.

Our Review

William Gibson’s stub-branching novel becomes an Amazon series: Flynne Fisher, a young woman in 2032 rural America, supports her family by beta-testing games — until a simulation turns out to be real: a view into future London, where whoever hired her can project consciousness (and objects — hence the title) into parallel pasts, and her timeline becomes a battlefield between London factions.

Chloë Grace Moretz leads with grounded conviction, the production design is superb (post-jackpot London is proper Gibson: nanotech, augmented heirs, hidden machinery), and the plot trusts you to keep up. Smart, gorgeous, canceled after one season — ending on a cliffhanger the source novel’s sequels never got to resolve on screen. Watch it as a beautiful, intelligent experiment that deserved better.

Verdict: Watch it. A half-told masterpiece — the peripheral of what could have been.
