The most underrated Marvel show: Tandy (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone (Aubrey Joseph), two New Orleans teenagers linked by a shared childhood tragedy, the Roxxon rig collapse that killed his brother and her father, and by powers that mirror each other: her light daggers, his darkness teleportation. The show uses the powers as metaphor (her white flight privilege, his Black teenage reality of policing and suspicion) and its real subject is New Orleans: post-Katrina class wounds, trauma bonding two kids from opposite sides of the city.
The first season (the church… the Roxxon conspiracy) is confident, moody teen noir; the second goes deeper into the city’s mythology. Canceled after two seasons, both complete. The best live action Marvel show nobody watched.
Verdict: Watch it, a genuine teen noir with New Orleans as its soul.
