Our Review
The best hard sci-fi series of the century, a solar system epic that treats physics as plot and prejudice as physics. Centuries ahead, humanity has split into three flavors: Earthers, Martians, and Belters, the asteroid belt labor class whose low gravity bodies mark them as lesser to the inners, and the discovery of the protomolecule (an alien nanoweapon) drags the system to the brink of extinction war. The Rocinante crew. Holden the idealist captain, Naomi the engineer, Amos the violence forward mechanic (the show’s best character), Alex the pilot, becomes the story’s connective tissue across six seasons.
The science is real: orbits as strategy, no artificial gravity, radiation as horror (the season 5 asteroid attack on Earth is staged with terrible patience). The politics are real: Belters’ resentment is earned by centuries of exploitation, and every faction contains good people doing terrible things for rational reasons. Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo, profane and magnificent), Drummer (Cara Gee, the Belt’s soul), Marco Inaros, the cast is deep and the payoffs are earned. Canceled once, saved by Amazon, ended at the correct point in the novels.
Verdict: Watch it. The best sci-fi on TV since BSG, and this one finished its story.
