A Viking boy swears revenge for his father’s murder and gets raised by the man who killed him, and the revenge story becomes something no one expects: a meditation on violence, slavery, and whether a warrior can put down the sword. Thorfinn’s journey from rage to purpose is anime’s great character arc.
Season one is a brutal Viking epic, season two is a quiet masterwork about farm labor and redemption, and the third arc continues the climb. One of the best things the medium has produced.
