Netflix’s best postapocalyptic fable and the rare adaptation that outclasses its comic. The original Sweet Tooth comics were brutal and bleak; the show softens the edges into something closer to a Miyazaki film, a deer boy wandering a collapsed world that’s somehow full of color and hope. That tonal gamble shouldn’t work, but it does, mostly because of Christian Convery’s wide open performance as Gus.
Nonso Anozie’s Tommy Jepperd, a lone wolf former athlete forced into fatherhood he never asked for, gives the show its spine. Their road trip bond is the whole engine, and it’s genuinely moving by season’s end. Yes, it can be a little saccharine, and the villain plot is the weakest thread, but this is a rare show you can watch with your kid that still hits adult beats about extinction, faith, and found family.
Verdict: Watch it. It’s the gentlest end of-the world story ever told, and it earns every tear.
