The best sci-fi show on television, and the most original premise of the decade: what if you could surgically split your work self from your home self? Lumon Industries’ severed employees clock in as blank slates, work their shift as one personality, and go home with no memory of the day. It’s a horror show about work-life balance shot like a Kubrick fever dream — those endless beige corridors are the most unsettling set design on TV.
Adam Scott has the role of his career as Mark, a man who severed to escape grief and discovers his innie self is part of something monstrous. Britt Lower’s Helly is the detonator — a new employee whose outie wants her innie dead, and whose rebellion drives everything. John Turturro and Christopher Walken give the show its aching soul: two severed coworkers falling in love across a rules-forbidden line. And Patricia Arquette’s Harmony Cobel is TV’s most unnerving middle manager.
The season 2 payoff — and the Cold Harbor reveal — sticks the landing better than anyone had a right to expect after the perfect season 1 cliffhanger.
Verdict: Watch this first. Then buy a Helly R.riggil hoodie and wait like the rest of us.
