Our Review

The MCU’s warmest Disney+ show: Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan — a Jersey City teenager, Avengers superfan, fanfic artist — gets powers of her own, and the show is a coming-of-age story first and a superhero story second. Vellani is a genuine discovery: her Kamala is unguarded joy, and the show’s Pakistani-American family life is the most warm, specific, lived-in family in the MCU.

The powers change (from comics-embiggening to cosmic-crystal energy) divides fans, but the visual language — the paint-splash art-project flourishes translating her inner fan-artist onto the screen — is the most stylistically alive the MCU has been on TV. The Partition flashback episode (the MCU’s first real history lesson) is the show’s prestige hour, and the finale lands everything a debut promises.

Verdict: Watch it. The best superhero debut of the Disney+ era.
