Longmire
Cast & Key People
Our Review
Longmire arrived before Yellowstone made neo-Westerns a category, and Netflix cancelled its own hit in 2017 after six seasons because the numbers didn’t justify the cost. Audiences forgave it, the show entered the prestige rerun pantheon, and it is still the comfort-food Western with actual teeth: 8.3 on IMDb, 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the rare series where critics slowly came around to the crowd favorite instead of the other way around.
Robert Taylor is Walt Longmire, the Wyoming sheriff who has quietly loved his neighbor since before his wife died, and Katee Sackhoff the deputy who might be tougher than him. The cases are procedural enough to drop into, the serial arcs deep enough to matter, and the whole thing carries the particular sadness of a man enforcing laws in a country that keeps changing the definitions under him.
It is based on the Walt Longmire novels by Craig Johnson, and the books are worth finding after the show. Six seasons, 63 episodes, no filler worth mentioning, and yes, it ends properly despite the cancellation.
For anyone who wanted more of Yellowstone without the billionaires, this is the answer. Our score: 8/10.
