Our Review
One of Netflix’s best supernatural shows, canceled after one season. In an alternate London overrun by ghosts (“the Problem”), only young people can see and fight them, so agencies of teenage operatives hunt spirits with rapiers, iron chains, and magnesium flares. Lucy Carlyle, a runaway with exceptional listening talents, joins Lockwood & Co., the smallest agency in London, run by the charming, secretive Anthony Lockwood, alongside the sardonic researcher George.
Based on Jonathan Stroud’s novels, the show nails the source’s tone: genuinely creepy ghost encounters (the ghost lock, the death glare of a Type Two) balanced with chosen family warmth and dry British humor. The chemistry of the three leads (Ruby Stokes, Cameron Chapman, Ali Hadji-Heshmati) is instant, the atmosphere is immersive, and the season’s mystery (the secret in the locked room) resolves beautifully while setting up more. Canceled too soon, like everything good.
Verdict: Watch it. Death is not the end, and neither, fans hope, is cancellation.
