Our Review
The Early Word: Prime Video’s small screen sequel to two of the most beautiful science fiction films ever made arrives with impossible expectations. Blade Runner 2099 is one of the most anticipated new shows of 2026, and everything announced so far suggests the people making it understand the assignment: set decades after Blade Runner 2049, on an Earth where Los Angeles has been reborn, just not by humanity, the series follows Cora, a fugitive in a final bid to stop running who takes on one last identity: a Blade Runner.
The franchise’s core question, what does it cost to be human, and who gets to decide, is built for the long form patience of television, and the production commitment is cinematic: real sets, practical atmosphere, and the signature rain soaked melancholy. The danger with any Blade Runner continuation is that ponderous becomes ponderous; the films earned their slow pace with imagery nobody had seen before. We’re optimistic, with one eyebrow raised.
Coming soon to Prime Video. Blade Runner 2099 premieres November 25, 2026. If you’re deciding what to watch this fall, mark the date. Full review after the premiere. Our anticipation: 8/10.
