Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos

Our Review

The Avatar machine does not stop. Fresh off the New York Comic Con panel that renewed Seven Havens for Books 3 and 4, DiMartino and Konietzko confirmed Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos as the next Paramount+ original from Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios, with Konietzko showrunning.

The premise reaches back into the franchise’s most tantalizing blank space: Kuruk, the waterbender Avatar between Kyoshi and the eras fans know, caught as a rebellious teenager who bucks thousands of years of tradition and chooses to learn the four elements through globetrotting adventures instead of the sanctioned path. The official logline has him staying one step ahead of an angry teacher, rowdy pirates, and chaotic spirits while helping the world in his own unorthodox way. The first look from NYCC showed a young Kuruk from the Northern Water Tribe with his animal companion, a koalaotter named Nikik, plus glimpses of his waterbending style and, notably, a surfboard.

The Early Word: no premiere date yet, but the pipeline around it is healthy, Seven Havens Books 3 and 4 already banked. Kuruk has one of the deepest well of untold Avatar lore to draw from, and Konietzko behind the wheel is the right hand for it. This is a keep-on-the-radar entry. Full review once it premieres.
