Our Review

The best Star Wars anything has been since 1980 — and the rare property that transcends its franchise. Tony Gilroy’s serialized drama about Cassian Andor before Rogue One is really about how fascism breeds rebellion. Season 1’s arc — the Ferrix murder, the Aldhani heist, the Narkina 5 prison stretch (three episodes of industrial hell building to a breakout that feels like a thesis statement) — shows the Empire as bureaucracy, not villains with lasers. Stellan Skarsgård’s Luthen Rael monologue (“I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I’ll never see”) is the best-written scene in the franchise’s history.

Season 2 closes the gap to Rogue One with the Ghorman massacre — the genocide that detonates the rebellion — and the best final stretch of episodes Star Wars has ever produced. No Jedi, no Force, no chosen ones; just people deciding what they’ll burn.

Verdict: Watch it first, even if you don’t like Star Wars. Especially if you don’t.
